Read ratios as machine capacity

Factorio machine ratios change with recipe time, crafting speed, modules and target rate. Keep fractional requirements when comparing steps; round only when deciding what to build.

Exact versus build

A step needing 0.5 machine has half a machine of steady-state work. Build one machine and expect about 50% utilization.

Compare every step

The steps view shows required capacity and, when a single recipe makes the target, machines per target machine.

Test equipment choices

Change assemblers, furnaces, modules or beacon coverage to see the resulting capacity and power estimates.

Know what the numbers include

A ratio is relative to the target step. Fractions are retained so you can see where machines will run below full capacity.

Choose the expanded 2.0.55 base-game dataset for oil processing, ore mining, uranium fuel cycles and rocket launches. It supports shared targets, modules, beacons and mining productivity. Furnace fuel is optional; boilers use the selected fuel. Pumpjack field yield, reactor heat and power layouts, Space Age, quality and mods are not modeled.

Common questions

Why do required and build counts differ?

Required is the exact steady-state machine capacity. Build rounds each recipe step up to whole machines; utilization indicates how much of that capacity the target uses.

Do modules and beacons change the ratios?

Yes. In the expanded dataset, configured modules and beacon effects change recipe capacity. Beacon electricity requires the installed beacon count you enter.

How do I compare red and green circuit machine ratios?

Choose Advanced circuit for red circuits or Electronic circuit for green circuits, set the target rate and open Steps. Required machines show exact capacity; build counts round up to whole machines.

Does this calculate inserter stack size or belt balancers?

No. It estimates production and item belt demand, but does not simulate inserter throughput, lane balancing or blueprint layouts.
